The Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has warned the President, John Dramani Mahama to work swiftly to solve the galamsey menace if he wants to be taken seriously.

Commenting on the recent clashes between illegal miners and military officers stationed at AngloGold Ashanti Mines in Obuasi in Ashanti Region, Kwesi Pratt said all these happened because the country has failed to deal ruthlessly with galamsey.

According to him, although the popular mining town is under-developed in spite of years of mining operations there, it is still not a justification for the clashes which resulted in the death of eight miners.

“President John Mahama has listed a litany of things he will do in 120 days which includes crapping the e-levy which I support but I want to ask what is President John Mahama doing about galamsey? He should remember that we berated and voted massively against the NPP because of galamsey so he should man up and solve galamsey else we will discipline him with the same stick we used for the NPP…,” he said.

The veteran journalist further called on the President to appoint a ‘special operations officer’ to lead the fight against illegal mining if he wants to be in the good books of Ghanaians.

“I hear our own friend, Gbevlo Lartey has been appointed Special Envoy to the Sahel region, but I ask, when are also getting a special operations officer to fight galamsey?,” he quized.
