The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Team, led by the Deputy National Coordinator, Mr. George Dadzie Jnr, engages the people of Sefwi Enchi and its surrounding communities in an important stakeholder meeting aimed at promoting responsible and sustainable mining practices and enhancing skills development among local residents.
The meeting formed part of the team’s ongoing nationwide initiative to educate and empower mining communities on how to mine responsibly while preserving the environment and ensuring that the benefits of mining activities contribute to local and national development.
In his remarks, the Deputy National Coordinator, Mr. George Dadzie Jnr, emphasized the need for miners and community members to adopt responsible mining practices that safeguard the environment, protect water bodies, and ensure the safety and well-being of all those involved in the mining value chain. He noted that the government, through the Responsible Cooperative Mining initiative, is committed to formalizing small-scale mining operations and supporting miners with the right technical and logistical assistance to help them operate sustainably and profitably.

The Head of Technical Operations, Mr. Owusu Bempeh Afriyie, also briefed the gathering on the various skills development opportunities available to the youth and women in the community.
He explained that training in technical and entrepreneurial skills is a vital component of the government’s broader effort to create sustainable jobs and alternative livelihoods, particularly in mining areas.
He encouraged residents to take advantage of these programs to improve their skills, diversify their income sources, and contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic growth of their communities.
The event was also graced by the Western North Regional Minister and the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Enchi, who both commended the initiative and reiterated the importance of responsible and sustainable mining.
They highlighted how responsible mining can bring lasting benefits to local communities, including job creation, infrastructure development, and improved living standards—when done with respect for the environment and adherence to proper regulations.

Following the meeting, the team conducted a site inspection of the area proposed by the community for mining activities.
The inspection provided an opportunity for technical experts to assess the land, offer guidance, and ensure that any future mining operations will align with responsible and sustainable mining standards.
The engagement was well-received by the people of Sefwi Enchi and its environs, who expressed their appreciation to the team and government officials for their proactive approach to involving local communities in decision-making and promoting development that benefits all stakeholders.

This initiative reflects the government’s ongoing commitment to ensuring that Ghana’s natural resources are harnessed responsibly, equitably, and sustainably—leaving a lasting legacy for future generations.
