In a recent internal poll conducted by the Africa Policy Lens (APL)among delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia emerged as the clear frontrunner to lead the party into the 2028 general elections.
The study, which surveyed 30,681 NPP delegates across all 16 regions, shows an overwhelming 63.8% of respondents favour Dr. Bawumia as their preferred candidate to lead the NPP into the 2028 Presidential Elections.
Following closely is Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, who received 28.9% support, making him the second most popular contender among party delegates.
Other candidates include Dr. Bryan Acheampong who obtained 4.6%, Yaw Osei Adutwum with 1.5%, and Kwabena Agyapong with 1.2%.
The data also indicates that Dr. Bawumia is leading in 14 out of the 16 regions, with Hon. Ken Agyepong leading in the two remaining regions -the Central and Western North regions.
These results reflect the prevailing sentiment among NPP supporters, positioning Dr. Bawumia as the leading figure likely to secure the party’s nomination for the January 31st presidential primaries and subsequently the 2028 general elections.
His consistent popularity is attributed to his marketability and general approach to his campaign.
The poll’s outcome is likely to influence the ongoing discussions and strategic planning within the NPP ahead of the upcoming internal primaries.
Party officials and delegates alike will closely watch these results as they prepare for the crucial elections, emphasizing unity and rallying behind the preferred candidate to ensure victory.
As the NPP gears up for the electoral battle, Dr. Bawumia’s commanding support in the poll may strengthen his bid and energize the party’s campaign efforts for a potential victory in 2028.
