In a strategic move to solidify internal party cohesion following a spirited primary season, former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has extended an olive branch to his critics within the majority caucus, urging them to pivot toward a unified front for the upcoming general elections.
Addressing a delegation of Members of Parliament, Dr. Bawumia struck a distinctly reconciliatory tone.
Acknowledging the friction that often accompanies democratic contests, he signalled a “clean slate” policy for all party members, regardless of their past allegiances.
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the heat of the campaign trail should not translate into permanent divisions.
He further reminded the gathering that internal primaries are a healthy exercise of democracy but cautioned that the party’s ultimate success depends on its ability to heal quickly.
“My mind is open, my heart is open, and my hands are open,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
He further assired that “I am willing to work with anyone who can contribute to the party’s success.”
The 2028 flagbearer of the NPP also insisted that personal grievances and rivalries must be discarded in favour of “collective sacrifice,” framing the task ahead as a national mission that transcends individual interests.
The meeting also served as a platform for the legislative arm to reaffirm its loyalty.
The Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin formally pledged the MPs’ unwavering support for Dr. Bawumia’s leadership and the party’s vision.
Afenyo-Markin noted that the caucus is prepared to mobilize and align its legislative efforts with the party’s broader campaign goals, ensuring that the government’s track record is effectively communicated to the electorate.
