The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Ghana Police Service have launched a series of coordinated operations across parts of the Ashanti, Volta, and Ahafo Regions to arrest individuals believed to be involved in recent attacks on members of anti-illegal mining task forces and security personnel.
The joint military and police swoops, which began at dawn on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, are being conducted simultaneously in specific communities — Dadwene and Anwona in the Ashanti Region, Ehi in the Volta Region, and Hwediem, Kenyase, Guaso, and Marhani in the Ahafo Region.
In a statement signed by Captain (Ghana Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations at the Ghana Armed Forces, the security services said, “The Ghana Armed Forces and Ghana Police Service are conducting simultaneous targeted and intelligence-led joint swoops in the Ashanti Region specifically, Dadwene and Anwona, in the Volta Region at Ehi and in the Ahafo Region at Hwediem, Kenyase, Guaso and Marhani.”
According to the statement, the operations “aim at arresting identified persons involved in the recent attacks on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) team, some Police officers and officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) including journalists.”
The Armed Forces and Police warned that anyone who attempts to obstruct their lawful operations, particularly in the fight against illegal mining, would face strict legal consequences.
“Any individual or group that attempts to obstruct the operations of any of the security services in their anti-galamsey operations or in the performance of any other lawful duty, will face the full force of the law,” the statement cautioned.
The joint statement also assured residents in the affected areas of their safety and urged them to remain calm as the operations continue.
The security services further commended the public, civil society groups, and the media for condemning the recent attacks on personnel involved in anti-illegal mining operations.
