Former Vice President, Dr Mahamud Bawumia has encouraged supporters not to lose hope as the party stands a greater chance of recapturing power in the 2028 elections.

Speaking to delegates of the party in the Sene East Constituency at the commencement of his “Our Journey Together” campaign on Wednesday, 15th October 2026, Dr Bawumia said after analysing the data from the 2024 polls, he is convinced the party could have easily emerged victorious in the crucial polls and broken the eight-year political cycle record had these people gone out to casts ballots for the NPP.

“At least 2.1 million NPP sympathisers who voted in the 2020 elections did not go out to vote in the 2024 elections. John Mahama won the elections with 1.7 million votes. This means that NPP would have been victorious in the 2024 elections if all the 2.1 million people who abstained from the polls had gone out to vote…,” he told the delegates.

According to him, this data has informed his conclusion that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) wouldn’t have been declared winner of the polls had the NPP put its house in order and organized its members and sympathisers to go out and cast their votes.

“…I keep on saying that the NDC did not win the [2024] elections, it is rather the NPP which lost the elections…,” he added.

Dr Bawumia who was the flagbearer of the NPP in the 2024 elections therefore encouraged delegates of the party not to lose hope adding that the party will emerge victorious in the 2028 elections if they out their house in order and forge ahead as a united force.

“I am convinced that NPP will, by the grace of God, win the 2028 elections if we unite and also go out to vote [in the 2028] elections.

The economist who is seeking to lead the NPP party into the 2028 elections as its flagbearer encouraged supporters not to lose hope as the party stands a greater chance of recapturing power in the 2028 elections.
