A former Nasara Coordinator for NPP-USA, Alhaji Ali Suraj, has officially declared his intention to contest for the position of National Nasara Coordinator position of the New PatrioticParty (NPP).
The announcement comes on the heels of the party’s successful presidential primaries, which saw the emergence of Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia as the flagbearer.
Alhaji Suraj’s bid is seen by political analysts as a strategic move to consolidate the party’s growing influence within Zongo and settler communities across the country.
In a statement released by him to declare his interest, Alhaji Suraj noted that his decision was not personal but a response to extensive consultations and “countless calls” from well-meaning members and stakeholders of the party.
”This decision has not been taken lightly. It comes after careful consideration and in response to calls for a renewed leadership—one rooted in the founding values and democratic ideals of the Nasara fraternity,” the statement read in part.
With a rich history of service, including his tenure as a Nasara leader in the diaspora and his involvement in several high-level party committees, Suraj believes he possesses the “experienced hand” needed to steer the wing toward the 2028 general elections.
The “Vision 2028” Policy Pillars
Alhaji Ali Suraj outlined a five-point policy agenda aimed at transforming the Nasara wing from a seasonal campaign group into a permanent powerhouse within the NPP structure:
- Administrative Reform: The formal establishment of a National Nasara Administration to streamline operations.
- Constant Engagement: Positioning the fraternity as a year-round bridge between the NPP and the Muslim/Zongo communities, rather than just an election-year entity.
- Vibrant Resource Mobilization: Re-energizing and properly resourcing the wing to make it more competitive and visible.
- Values-Driven Leadership: Building a fraternity anchored on trust, opportunity, and discipline.
- Welfare-Centric Mobilization: Implementing a welfare-driven system to support party workers and volunteers within settler communities.
Strengthening the “Bawumia Factor”
Political observers suggest that Alhaji Suraj’s candidacy is timed to complement the party’s efforts under Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. Suraj emphasized that his ultimate goal is to re-energize the Zongos to ensure the NPP “breaks the eight” and secures a decisive victory in 2028.
”I am emboldened by the encouragement I have received from the grassroots and colleagues across the country. We need a vibrant Nasara wing to secure our future,” he concluded.
As the NPP prepares for its upcoming internal elections, the National Nasara Organizer race is expected to be one of the most watched contests, with Alhaji Ali Suraj now positioned as a leading contender.
