Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Muhammed Ahmed Baba Jamal, has been declared winner of the Ayawaso East Parliamentary primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Baba Jamal polled 431 of the valid votes cast at the polling station to win the slot to represent the ruling party in the by-election.
Widow of the late Traore who was the MP for the constituency, Hajia Amina Adam came second with 399 votes while Mohammed Ramne (Constituency Chairman), and Dr Yakubu Azimdow polled 88 and 45 votes respectively.
A fifth contender, Najib Sani, polled only one vote.
The results mean that the veteran politician will contest on the ticket of the NDC in the by-election scheduled for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
The tightly contested primary attracted significant public interest, particularly amid discussions around campaign conduct.
Prior to voting, Baba Jamal’s campaign distributed items such as 32-inch television sets and boiled eggs to delegates—gestures he maintained were acts of goodwill and not intended to influence the outcome.
