The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been hit with a fresh injunction over its quest to organise an early delegates conference.

Two members of the party, who are unhappy with this decision, have prayed the Accra High Court to injunct the upcoming conference of the main opposition political party.

Shamsudeen Iddrisu and Boateng Kwadwo prayed the court to halt the organisation of the upcoming conference due to what they describe as failure of the party’s leadership to follow laid down rules stated in the NPP’s constitution.

The two men are seeking the following reliefs:

“A Declaration that on a true and proper interpretation of Article 19 of the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party, an amendment to the constitution shall be made only at a National Delegates Conference organised in accordance with the provisions of Article 9(25), Article 10(2)(2) and Article 10(2)(5) of the Constitution.

(b) A Declaration that upon true and proper interpretation of Article 10(2)(5) of the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party, the Defendant can not organise a National Annual Delegates Conference without complying with the one month notice circulation of the proposed ammendment to every Regional and Constituency office.

(c) A Declaration that upon true and proper interpretation of Article 19(b) of the Constitution of the New Patriotic Party, the Defendant cannot organise a National Annual Delegates Conference to ammend the Constitution without complying with the one month notice circulation of the proposed ammendment to every Regional and Constituency office.

(d) An order of the honourable court restraining the Defendant from convening a National Annual Delegates Conference to consider the proposed amendments into the Constitution without complying with the provisions of Articles 9(25), 10(2)(2), 10(2)(5), and 19(b) of the Constitution.

The plaintiffs also prayed the court to award cost and any other order/s the Honourable Court deems fit.
